No July CNS Chapter Newsletter to be Published

Published 07/19/2008

Posted on behalf of James Hartt, Cut N Shoot Editor

Shooters,

Our creed "Let's Ride and Have Fun" has gotten in the way of the July Newsletter. I assure you the Shooter Happenings and Calendar of Rides in the June issue, as well as what was available at the Chapter Meeting, contains all the information you'll need until the August Newsletter is published.

I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, but the August issue is already progressing.  I'm sure that you'll enjoy it.

CNS Message Center: New CNS Moderators Annoucement

Published 07/17/2008

Since CNS Officers spend a lot of time working behind the scenes for the Chapter, many are not able to take a leadership role on the CNS Message Center, as originally intended when it was established several years ago.

So, we have made a policy change to have a new team of active Chapter Members who will be Moderators to manage the non-public portions of the CNS Message Center.  These folks volunteered quickly when I posted a "Help Wanted" message within the CNS Message Center that described the responsibilities and commitment involved.  Your new CNS Moderators to date are:

John Henry Hallman
James Hartt
Reggie "No Wahala" Lewis
Jimmy "JW" Williams
Mike "BUBBA" Womack

I believe that each of these folks has the enthusiasm and commitment (passion) to serve Shooters well in this new role.  Please join me in thankin' our new internal CNS Moderator Team members for steppin' up and in congratulatin' them on their new role.

While basic Chapter information, which has increased substantially, will remain available via the CNS Message Center and elsewhere on the CNS Website without logging in, I encourage all Cut N Shoot Texas Chapter Members who haven't logged in a while or haven't registered with the CNS Message Center to log in and see what's happening.

We have fun and informative information on upcoming rides, ride retrospectives with pictures and write ups, Safety and Road Captain topics, a Shooter Goodwill forum with information on Shooter family members who are going through difficult times, a scooter talk forum for technical motorcicle chat, personal interaction with other Shooters, and many other benefits.

Also, there's nothing wrong with logging in and just readin'.  After all, "You gotta ride your own ride."

Here's the Link to the CNS Message Center

Paul Pickney Funeral

Published 07/16/2008

From David Moore, CNS Sponsor
Paul Pickney, another old CNS member died this week. His family states that one of his final wishes was that he would like a "leather show", also called a group of bikes, to show up at his funeral to see him off.

Please remember these members and their families in your thoughts and prayers and let them know we all appreciate all they have done for this chapter they still are part of the CNS family.

Paul's funeral is scheduled for Thursday the 17th at 4:00PM. It will be held at The Vineyard Church located at the corner of Dallas and San Jacinto in Conroe, TX. Thanks for any attention and support we may be able to provide.

New Charity Events Page on CNS Website

Get Ready.  Toy Run season is just around the corner.  If you haven't signed up as a volunteer, think about just where you'd like to help.  We can never have too many volunteers and, as many can tell you, it will be an experience of a lifetime you'll never regret or forget.

June 29th - End of the Month Ride.

A note about Summer Hydration from our CNS Safety guy, Bob "Bob-o" Voss
Riding when the temperature is in excess of 90 degrees can be dangerous to your health. You must keep your body temperature under control. Even rides as short as an hour can result in dehydration or sun-stroke.

You can greatly diminish these health risks by keeping your neck cool, and as a result cooling the large veins that feed your brain. There are two popular ways to achieve this.

One is called a 'cool collar' and is made from a tube of bandana material that contains some water absorbing beads sewn into it. You take a dry collar and submerge it in cool water for up to 1 hour before your ride. These collars cool by the evaporation of the water. I find them to be marginal because they reach ambient temperature rather quickly and then the cooling effect is greatly reduced.

I prefer taking your CUT-N SHOOT bandana into the gas station, filling it with ice, rolling it up, and tying it around your neck. When the ice melts, the dripping water will cool you front and back as it evaporates. Your bandana is easy to refill each time you stop.

Also remember that you sweat and therefore lose a lot of body fluids. You NEED to DRINK lots of fluids (WATER not soft drinks) too!!!

Let's ride and have a safe summer.

Bob-O

Till next time

April HOG Calling - Part II

Published 04/10/2008

Hey Shooters,

There is so much going on and most of it is really good stuff, and it demands being repeated.  Before you hit the back button, there are some new items here.

April Howls - Buffalo Wild Wings at 2948 I-45 North in Conroe.  Take the FM 3083 exit.

April 12th - Chapter Meeting and Fund Distribution.   This is one of those moments that we've worked so hard for all year.  We raise money to benefit some of our neighbors that are less fortunate than we are.  Without the members of Cut-N-Shoot giving up their personal time, to attend events, to stand outside in all types of weather to sell a bike raffle ticket, gather, and auction and purchase items at the Toy Run Auction, and many other events, this would NOT happen.  Cut-N-Shoot members have huge hearts and have dug deep into their own pockets and volunteered many, many hours of time to make this possible. Be sure to be at the April Chapter meeting and see what the representatives of the various agencies have to say about you and what you've done to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

April 12 - Posse Ride Meeting - There will be a short Posse Ride meeting with Chris Miles after the Chapter meeting.  Be sure to be there if you plan to go on this ride.  He'll be answering questions, letting you know of any changes, giving out some great information and maps.

April 12th - Blood Drive, before, during and after the Chapter meeting.  The blood mobile didn't make it to Willis last month and Ms. Alta rescheduled it for Saturday.  It doesn't take long, doesn't hurt and you get a great patch!  We need donors! Your simple, brief act of giving directly affects someone suffering from a potentially life-threatening disease   Saving lives?  Sounds like something Shooters would do.

April 12th - Texan Harley-Davidson Spring and Summer Fashion Show!  After the Chapter meeting head on over to Texan.  Instead of an after meeting ride, Texan is going to serve lunch and dazzle us with the latest spring and summer attire.  There is usually a surprise or two in store for us during these events.

April 19-20 - "Harley & Horses" Iron Butt ride to Fort Worth.  Gates open at Texan at 7:45 am and first bike out at 8:15.  Last bike out at 9:00 am.

April 27th - End of the Month ride to Steve's Landing in Crystal Beach.  Gates open at Texan at 8:30 am, first bike out at 9:00 am and last bike out at 9:30 am.  Come early and get signed up, grouped up with the Road Captains.

Please Note:  The Cut-N-Shoot Website Members Section User Name and Password changes each year.  You can find the current User Name and Password on your 2008 Cut-N-Shoot Membership Card.  This card is "Dove Grey" with the Commemorative HOG 25th logo in the background.  The User Name and Password are in real small print on the lower right of the front of the card.

Please remember to keep our fellow Shooters, especially those that are in difficult times, in your thoughts and prayers.

As of April 7th, Cut-N-Shoot Texas Chapter #5013 is up to 705 members!!!!  (renewals and newbies)

Hey Shooters!

Got some updates on "not to be missed" and "you gotta see this"! events coming up that we wanted to remind you of or let you know about.

April Howls - Buffalo Wild Wings at 2948 I-45 North in Conroe.  Take the FM 3083 exit.

April 4th and 5th is the Montgomery County Bar B Q Cook Off.  Several Shooters have teamed up with our sponsoring dealer at The Texan Hawg Riders booth for the cook off.    The booth number is 60 and it's at the bottom of the big hill where the rodeo arena is.  This Cook Off isn't as large as Houston's, but it is one of the largest in Texas.  It's a lot of fun to see how some folk's imagination works after seeing the booth and port a potty decorating.  Come on out, especially on Friday night and sample some "cowboy grub" and chilled liquid refreshments.  Great music, great food and great friends!  Rumor has it that Terri and Michelle are experimenting with recipes to come up with the perfect jello shot!

April 5th - Be sure to get a copy of the Sunday edition of the Conroe Courier.  Cut-N-Shoot Charities, Inc. has placed the Grant Distribution invitation and the Sponsor List of the 2007 Toy Run in a half page spread for all to see.
